Back Loop Beanie Workshop by Stitches 4 Stillness

Learn to Crochet a Back Loop Beanie: December 3rd 7pm-9pm

🧶 Stitches for Stillness is a creative haven where mindfulness meets making. Through our hands-on workshops, we teach the gentle art of crochet as a practice of stillness, presence, and self-expression. Whether you’re a complete beginner or rediscovering your craft, you’ll find space to slow down, connect, and create something beautiful.

Our first workshop is Learn to Crochet a Back Loop Beanie all details below:

The simple act of taking a hook and some yarn can be so beneficial for your mental, physical and emotional health here is an expanded explanation of the benefits:

  1. Reduces stress and anxiety
The repetitive, rhythmic motion of crochet helps calm the nervous system — much like meditation. It can lower cortisol levels, slow your heart rate, and create a gentle sense of focus that quiets racing thoughts.
  2. Encourages mindfulness
Crochet invites you to be present — feeling the yarn between your fingers, watching each stitch take shape. This mindful attention helps anchor you in the moment, easing mental clutter and promoting emotional balance.
  3. Boosts mood and mental wellbeing
Creating something tangible with your hands releases dopamine — the brain’s “feel-good” chemical — which can help combat feelings of depression or low mood. The sense of progress and accomplishment also builds confidence and self-esteem.
  4. Supports brain health
Following patterns, counting stitches, and learning new techniques stimulate both sides of the brain, helping maintain cognitive flexibility and memory as we age.
  5. Improves fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
Regular crocheting strengthens hand muscles and maintains dexterity, which can be especially helpful for people with arthritis or joint stiffness (when done gently and mindfully).
  6. Fosters connection and community
Group workshops or crochet circles provide a sense of belonging and shared purpose — both powerful contributors to emotional resilience and happiness.
  7. Promotes relaxation and better sleep
Crocheting before bed can ease tension and quiet the mind, making it easier to unwind and drift into restful sleep.
